Split Rock Lighthouse on the North Shore of Lake Superior. For nearly 60 years this light flashed each night at 10 second intervals across more than 20 miles of Lake Superior's waters. The light is 38 ft above ground & 168 ft above the water level sitting on a rock cliff. Built after Storm on 11/28/1905 damaged 29 ships. The rocky coastline in the area is called the most dangerous piece of water in the world. Opened in 1910 and closed in 1969 the MN historical society operates and maintains the 1929 apperance when it was only accesable by ship.
