Taking the grand tour

Otaru, Japan (October 2000)– A little Japanese girl follows a guide of USS Kitty Hawk’s (CV 63) flight deck as she looks at the more than 70 aircraft from Carrier Air Wing FIVE during the ship’s port visit to Otaru on Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido during the Fall 2000 deployment. During Kitty Hawk’s port visit, the ship was opened to several thousand tourists who endured long lines waiting for the chance to walk the decks of America’s only permanently forward deployed aircraft carrier.
