Just another day at the office

Aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) at sea (March 2000) – Firefighters assigned to USS Kitty Hawk’s (CV 63) crash and salvage team observe flight operations from their P25 firefighting vehicle while the ship operates off the coast of Japan during sea trials. The crash and salvage team are ready to respond at a moment’s notice if an aircraft were to crash of the flight deck. Though they may not see very many real casualties, the team continually practices different types of scenarios, such as an aircraft landing on the flight deck without a front wheel so they can be ready to respond when they are needed.
