Ice/sand stalagmites

In February I was walking up and down the Lake Michigan beach in Door County with my camera. There was a build up of ice all along the shore. I got out as close to the water as I could, looked back and saw an ice shelf that had an undercut of about 1-2 feet high. Inside, I found these "ice/sand stalagmites" that measured about 8-10 inches in height with very interesting shapes and texture to them.
