Sometimes one changes their focus. I have been there to witness (and photograph) spectacular shafts of light on El Capitan, a smoky, dreamy morning at Bryce, the brilliant colors of an Upper Peninsula Fall, the most spectacular desert blooms - nature photography has always been an interest of mine, and still I still have the love of being out there away from the people and contemplating the unspoiled majesty of it all. But somehow, what I am seeking as my art and passion has drifted away from photographing nature towards an interest in the interaction of man and nature. In 2007 there is hardly an unaltered place on this planet, thanks to the 6.75 billion industrious human beings. And I have been ever increasingly attracted to that alteration of the environment as a photographer. The essence of this artistic attraction:
Man taking and nature taking back.
There has hardly been a place that I find more interesting for the give and take between man and nature than California's Salton Sea. There aren't many places around where both man and the environment have given and taken so much from each other in so short a time as here. Many of the photographs on this site were shot here.
And so I change my focus, renew my membership, and share a new outlook in the coming years.
