I am an avid amateur re-exploring photography in digital age. I dabbled in photography as a young adult using a 35 mm SLR.
My current digital equipment is centered around a recently purchased (mid 2007) Canon 5D. I use a 24-70 f/2.8L and 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens.
I mostly enjoy fine art landscape photography but I also spend a lot of time with family portraits. My wife and I have six grandkids that make wonderful subjects. They also are great justification for spending so much time on this hobby - no one in the family complains after enjoying the family portraits.
I hope to get to a point where I can suplement retirement (coming soon - I hope) with some photography income. However, for now it's just a passionate hobby.
I am focusing on learning compositional aspects of fine art landscape photography. The technical aspects come naturally - an occupational hazard - but even with this it takes practice to translate book knowledge into experience.
I have taken a few web-based classes to better "see" compositionally. I am very much looking forward to a Workshop (9/07) with Guy Tal and Michael Gordon. It will be great to see how the pros do things. Based on time spent on this site I'm certain I will be a much-improved photographer after spending a few days in Utah with Guy Tal.
