I'm a retired lecturer who has taken up photography, in particular of flowers, as a hobby. My work was in the field of museums and the arts, and I learned something of close-up photography preparing slides for lectures on the decorative arts.
I suppose my interest in the arts has been an influence on the way I look at natural subjects - flowers appeal to me particularly because of their often extraordinary forms, textures, patterns and colours. I concentrate chiefly on what have been called the ` inner landscapes ' of flowers - the centres where an extraordinary variety of structures may be found which enable plants to flourish and reproduce. In these tiny areas, crowded with life, the energy which drives the natural world can palpably be felt.
In making my images I rely a great deal on my favourite 100mm macro lens. I live in Manchester, England. The photo of me was taken at Fox Glacier, New Zealand.
