I developed a love of nature photography starting about 10 years ago on a trip across the United States when I discovered such beauty that I had to try to capture it. I was particularly attracted to the southwest – southern Utah and northern Arizona, in particular. The incredible rock formations and canyons and the amazing colors throughout the area drew me to it. Over the last ten years, I find that I am drawn to rock formations of all kinds and you will see them featured prominently in my photography.
At first, I took photographs in order to remember the wonderful places I had visited. Then I realized that I wanted to share these places with others - to encourage people to explore this wonderful world around us - to learn to love it and protect it. At that point I created my web page, which has both photographs and information on the areas photographed.
I have since taken another step and am now focusing on pictorially describing various hikes. Based on my own experience of going to national or state parks and trying to decide which hikes to take, I realized that I would like to know what I would see - not just how long or difficult the hike would be. Some people hike for the experience of hiking - moving through space and exercising the body. I hike in order to see all that is around me. For those people who care about what they will be seeing, I hope my photographs will help them decide which parks to explore and which trails to try. This is a relatively new endeavor and the number of hikes featured on my web site will continue to grow.
I use a 35mm camera; originally doing only color photography, but more recently discovering the subtlety and beauty of black and white. I have also expanded into wedding photography, which is quite a stretch from nature photography but which I also find challenging and enjoyable.
