In my every day job I am a software tester for a company that makes software to manage encryption. My job allows me a good amount of creativity in how I test the software, but I have always felt like I have needed more creativity than I am getting here. This is where nature photography is important to me.
I have always enjoyed art, but had found that I was not able to find the time to finish a painting or a drawing. When my three boys came along, I found it even more difficult. This is one of the main reasons that I enjoy floral photography so much. I am able to explore my creativity while I can spend time with my boys outside. My wife is very understanding and supportive of both my floral photography habit, and my gardening - so that I have something to shoot at home.
Through the support of other photographers at NPN I have been able to learn and grow photographically.
I find that a few different methods work well for me:
- Low light studio shooting in the winter
- High key studio shooting in the winter
- Cramming (focusing through different elements)
- Shallow DOF treatents
- Multiple Exposures
My favorite subjects are rock daisies, dahlias, gerbera daisies, calla lilies, and many other varieties.
