I like many others took basic photography classes in high school. Even though I always enjoyed it I never seemed to have time to pursue it as anything more than a passing hobby. When I met my now wife she suggested that I dust off my old camera and go to the local preserve to take some photos. That day sparked something in me, my passion for photography grew from there. I went from a fully manual 35mm to an auto-focus 35mm then to a digital SLR and presently along with digital I am using a 4x5 field camera.
The reason I moved to the 4x5 field camera is that I want the best image I can get if I am going to spend the time trying to capture it. Don’t get me wrong 35mm has its place but since I concentrate mostly on landscape I can take the extra time necessary to utilize the large format camera.
The main joy I gain from photography is more than simply capturing images. It is a reason to see the most beautiful parts of the country at the best times. This pursuit changes the way you view the natural world, you see the beauty everywhere around you.
