My current work is taken with a Canon D20 digital camera. I specialize in Macro photography using the Sigma Macro lenses. In addition I recently started using the Sigma ultra wide angle lens for landscape photography. I find that in Michigan outdoor photography is at its best in September and October when lighting and fall colors are optimal. Planning ahead and getting out to a shooting location before the sun comes up is the key to good photography. I find that the early morning sun is the best lighting for the entire day.
I have been mostly self-taught in both the mechanics of photography and digital editing. I have had some training through various field workshops put on by nature photographer Mike Moats. Mikes workshops have helped open my eyes to the more creative side of outdoor macro photography.
Nature can present her beauty to us in dramatic and profound ways. My goal is to create images that enhance the dramatic lighting and detail that can be found in nature. In doing so my hope is that viewers will be able to connect emotionally with the subject. I believe my photographs are the most successful when they reveal the subtle elegance of nature.
