By trade I am a microscopist working for Carl Zeiss MicroImaging specializing in confocal and multi-photon laser scanning microscopy. I am also an avid natural history photographer (when I have the time :) ). The majority of work presented here was taken over the past 2 years and is almost entirely digital. Some of it is very traditional in the sense that standard 35mm cameras and objectives compose the image. Others are fusion images, which composite multiple exposures together to compensate for the inability of modern optics to reproduce the perspective and dynamic range of the human eye. While each photograph faithfully reproduces vital elements in the scene, the goal is to communicate my memories of the subjects I photograph.
I see a photograph as a tangible record of the journey from an experience to a memory. Memories from our experiences rely heavily on our imagination, which cannot be "seen" or quantified. While I believe in expressing the truth of a photograph as permanent record of what my eyes have seen, its most imperative job is to serve as a link between your imagination and mine. I do hope you've enjoyed them, and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me
here.
