Some background on who I am. Well, I took my first photography class in 1964 in my high school. And ever since that I’ve been “Hooked”, although I had some long periods where I did not image. For a period of time in the 70’s and early 8o’s I was the advertising director for Ritz Camera during a growth period from 21 to over 400 stores. I created many of the marketing programs for Ritz and often spent time in New York with the major magazines of that period.
I did a lot of studio work (color and B&W) for Ritz and during that period I did very little personal imaging. I continued to work in Video and Still when I left Ritz to open my own advertising and graphics arts firm. Again my personal imaging suffered.
About 15 years ago I moved back to Oregon, and finally made the jump to digital with the little Nikon CP775. I have been shooting seriously for about 4 years and am finding that digital has given me undreamed tools for imaging.
I’ve used Photoshop for a very long time (since version 1), and love the difference between the traditional darkroom and CS and my Epson 2400.
While I have a deep commitment to B&W, I find that Birds, Wildlife, Macro, and landscapes (although about 70% of my landscapes are B&W) are my real “focus”. While I do image other types of subjects, Oregon lacking a true “large city” limits some of the fine art stuff I like to photography.
While I use Nikon gear, I have use most sizes of cameras as well as brands. I don’t care what folks shoot with only the final image. I’ve been to most of the fine art galleries from Toronto to Santa Fe, and LA to Vancouver, B.C., and I must confess while I like some images better than other, I find at least something to like about most images.
