I am a Coastal Landscape and Nature Photographer in South Texas. My focus is to capture the character of the subjects I shoot, whether it is a wading bird, beach walk or boat that has seen better days. But wait, I am getting ahead of myself.
I am often at the Texas Gulf Coast. Years of fishing, offshore diving and surfing made the Texas Gulf Coast my backyard since I was young and made all the sense to begin coastal landscape photography my passion, and business, even though I live three hours away to the north.
Lots of birds fly at the coast so I began birding photography, especially bird-in-flight-photography, in order to take lots of training photographs and learn the control necessary to capture composed images and to understand lens selection, exposure, shutter speeds, and available light. Bird-in-flight-photography is the crash course in control of these elements when you want to gain sharp images since your subjects are flying at twenty miles per hour.
Bird-in-flight photography focused my direction in image taking so I could be very repetitive and dial in formulas for success at each outing. This built confidence and I began to move forward and take on new challenges and directions in HDR, night photography, and portraiture using that same methodology. If bird-in flight photography is the crash course on capturing your subject, then Nature photography is the school that teaches us how to find character in all subjects.
I am current member of the Nature Photographers Network.
