I was born in Quincy, MA, the year 1957. At the age of 7, my family moved to Florida. There I developed a love of the outdoors and nature. National Geographic was my favorite reading material. It was not until I was an adult that I was able to travel and in turn develop my passion for trying to capture nature at its best through the camera lens. I graduated from the Florida State University School of Nursing in 1981 and two years later started my training to be a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. During college I learned to fly and flew my own airplane to places like The Grand Canyon, Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks, and all the way up to Alaska. I have since travelled to Antarctica, South Georgia and The Falkland Islands, and three times to Africa with National Geographic photographer Wolfgang Kaehler and BBC wildlife photographer Jonathan Scott. Along with their wonderful instruction, they gave me great inspiration.
During the early years I started off with the simple Nikon film cameras and a few lens. Since then I have acquired more speciality lens and pro camera bodies, keeping with Nikon. In 2004 I converted to all digital. My equipment now is the Nikon D300 and D200 camera bodies, Nikon 500mm AF-S II f/4 lens, Nikon 70-300 AF-S VR ED f/4.5-5.6, Tokina SD 12-24 f/4, Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8, and Tokina 100mm AT-X IF f/2.8 macro lens. My tripod is a Feisol CT-3371 with a full Wimberley gimbal head. I also have a small studio ball head for landscape work.
Still based in Florida, I spend most weekends and my vacations exploring my world, and always searching for the perfect light to catch those special moments that nature has to offer.
