As a photo hobbyist for 10 years, my photography has been a way and a reason for me to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. I reside in the South Central section of Ohio. This area is a diverse agricultural area of what has been considered the traditional Northern edge of Appalachia. I have worked with many formats including 4x5, 6x7, 35mm, and now digital.
I like to enter the many photography contests available both locally and on the internet. These contests are not limited to nature photography and allow me to stretch my creativity and grow my skills as a photographer. I have had some success in these photography contests.
“Shoot the Hills” is a contest held in the beautiful Hocking Hills region of Ohio. I have won the grand prize in this annual photography contest twice. In 2002 and 2003 I won the Flora division in “Shoot the Hills”. In 2004 the Abstract division of “Shoot the Hills” I won. Each summer the local county fairs all have well attended photography contest. These fairs were my (and many others) first exposure to fine art photography.
I have had the good fortune to have my photos published several times. In 2006 the Clinton County Convention and Visitors Bureau brochure included one of my photos. My photos have been published in four issues of the magazine “Over the Back Fence”. I had a full page photo in the fall 2005 issue of the “Boundary Waters Journal”.
