Silent Lucidity

Photographed last week after sunset at Double Arch in Arches NP. My whole intent was to shoot something with a lot of graphic appeal with big, bold colors and lines. I also have an image like this with a sunburst in the lower right corner that I'll post at some point.

Thanks for having a look and leaving a comment.

What, no moon framed in the arch? Rookie!

But seriously, I love the bold graphic nature of this shot. I've never gotten a shot of Double Arch that I liked, but this is one of the best I've seen.

This is beautiful, Bret. I love the deep blues in the sky. Are you a Queensryche fan?

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I am a proud Queensryche fan, Guy. They were a far more intelligent and talented group of musicians than the other "metal" bands of the day. I'm sure I'll catch heat for that statement, but I stand by it!

Bret,

This is excellent! I love the "otherworldly" feel to it. I'm sure Guy can send you a moon to paste in there! Its amazing what you can do without duraflame!

So I'm guessing Rush, Yes, Pink Floyd are on your list?

Damn, I'm bummed Guy beat me to the Queensryche reference. I didn't even notice it in my original post. Once upon a time I photographed rock stars instead of rocks, and I'm proud of my pic with a pre-bald Scott Rockenfield backstage at Red Rocks. Rock on!

Been there, never done that, excellent. My best shot from there was when it was snow covered. Excellent concept, well done.

I love the graphic quality of this. The pure black arch with the deep rich blue sky is especially nice. The part I like least are the clouds framed by the lower arch. This in no way detracts from the image, its killer. Just thought I mention it as it adds another perspective on this image. In a nutshell, I would be doing backflips for joy if this were the result of my effort. Well done. :toast:

Well done, Bret, those clouds in the lower arch are a real grabber.

This has a wonderful graphic quality that seperates it from the usual arch shots. Very nice indeed. I'm sure I'm showing my age but I've never heard of Queensrych?

This is awesome, Bret. The graphic silhouette of the arch with the backdrop of the blue sky is superb. The white wispy clouds are the icing on the cake.

Thanks for all the compliments, folks!

Guy: Yep, I am a Queensryche fan. They truly were an intelligent and talented band.

Dan: Queensryche was a "metal" band popular in the late 80's/early 90's. "Silent Lucidity" was one of their more popular songs that had a very Pink Floyd feel about it.

A quiet and graphical image. I love the tone of blue fading in the darkness.

Bret, I didn't have a chance to see this until you received the editor's pick. I really like it! The lines drawn by the darker rocks are polace in an especially pleasing manner, the colors are quite nice and the wisp of clouds windowed by the arch are a special icing on the whole scene. Most of all the photo has a special mood and sense of place. A refreshing and novel perspective on the possibilities of arch shots. I think this is one of your best images I've seen.

Man, oh man how I love these graphic types of images. This is just wonderful, and I think the gradient in the sky is magnificent. The image is balanced, clean, and wonderful.
