A Portrait

What I learned ...

Sometimes a 500mm lens is far too long; nevertheless, this Great White Egret sat patiently waiting for me to take his portrait as I slowly backed away to where I was able to get a shot.

Shooting Data:
Nikon D200, f/4 500 mm lens, f/8, 1/1000s, -.67 EV, ISO 200, Aperture priority, Tripod

Thanks for viewing and leaving comments--good, bad, and indifferent :wavey:

Carol

Nice sharp portrait with "quiet" BG. I'm thinking about a long prime but, as you mentioned, I would miss my zoom composition wise.

Hi Carol, Very nice..... I like the detail. Whites are a bit hot on the shoulder, maybe this can be fixed with Shadow/Highlight if the detail is there. What great detail in the face, and sharper than any tack I've ever seen. Check out that eye! :toast: :toast:

Hi Carol. I really like this one. The whites are great, and against the background really provide a wonderful effect. And as stated before, SHARP! Very nice!

Hi Carol,

Lovely portrait shot! I like the 200-400mm for the very reasons you've mentioned above!

Carol: Really sharp well exposed image. I'm sure the fix for the shoulder is an easy one. Love the background. I'd like to see it cropped a bit from the top to make this into a slimmer pano look. It seems to match the feel of the rest of the image. Just my thoughts.

I like the intense look on the bird's face and the pose. The background makes the bird pop. As mentioned some whites look hot, but you should be able to easily fix that in RAW
