Exceedingly Knotted

The home to this Great White Egret, Pelicans, Ducks, Blue Egrets, and other water fowl is a dock in Marina del Rey, California where many fishing boats stop to fuel. These birds surely know which side their bread is buttered on!

I can't say I've ever seen an Egret quite as convoluted as this one
:jump:

Shooting Data:

Nikon D200, f/4 500 mm lens, f/8, 1/1500s, -1 EV, ISO 200, Aperture priority, Tripod

Post-processing:
Curves adjustment layer and minor Smart Sharpening + cropping for composition and web preparation.

Nate: If you think there is too much evidence of Man in this image, will you please move it to Man and Nature.

Thanks all for viewing and leaving C&C

Carol

Wow, Carol - this thing looks like a pretzel. Very interesting to see. I like the "perch" too. Terri

Oh great, now I've got that song in my head - "Marina del Rey....". I like boats and I like birds, this photo has em both, so you know what I think  :toast:

Very sharp, and great job on the whites. Little roomy on the top for me. Nice photo!

Looks like he ate a big pretzel. I see that you're getting used to that lens, Carol  . Nice detail, excellent sharpness. :toast: :toast:

Very nice Capture Carol! I like the boat in the image with him as it is really part of where you commonly see them. Kind of their environment. So great environment shot as well!

I think the egret is just practicing tying a half-hitch.

Knotted is right, Carol. It took me a couple of minutes to realize that it wan't really tied in a knot. It's a great image. On my monitor it looks just a tad reddish, though that might have been reflection off something. :toast: :toast:
