This image was made at a small community pond in Setauket, NY. I used my IR converted D100 with the 18-35 at f11 and 1/100 sec. The color is pretty much as it came out of the camera with a little tweaking here and there.

A surreal IR image Steve. Perfect placement on that swan.

Surreal was also the 1st word that came to my mind. I'm going to have to learn about IR!

Definitely dreamlike, looks much more like a painting than photo, but whatever the label its a terrific comp and the mood and feel are great. I especially like the light on the swan. I grew up and went to school in Setauket (3 villages) and know this location.

What I wouldn't give for the money to buy a converted camera. great shot. my only nit is it seams the horizon isn't quite straight.

Sorry about the IR abbreviation. As some of you have guessed it stands for infrared. A camera that has been converted to IR has had its normal low pass filter (the glass filter in front of the camera's sensor) removed, and replaced with an IR filter. This filter is visibly opaque and will allow only "near infrared" light to pass through. "Near infrared" is infrared light close to the visible spectrum, so you can't use the camera to measure IR from heat sources. I bought the filter from www.lifepixel.com and installed it myself using their "do it yourself" instructions. Before you decide to convert an older digital camera you may have lying around, make sure you read the instructions and that you have the qualifications to handle it. I know of people that have tried it and totally wrecked their camera. Thanks for all your comments.

This town is right near me. I know this area. It is ideal place for photographers to find something beautiful outdoors, to shoot.
Steve, you managed to take an already lovely locale and turn it into some dreamy, ethereal place that only exists in one's imagination.
If you had not mentioned the town, I never would have recognized it!
While this is a naturally picturesque town to take photos, you have done an unbelievably great job of using IR to render a dreamy, fairytale like scene. You have me waiting for the poem, that should accompany this vision you created.
But then some photos are a poem in themselves. Jan
