Bobcat licking his chops

Another shot of the bobcat I posted a few days. I took these shots near my sister's house in NW Colorado near Meeker. I took a few dozen shots, several different poses. In this one he is looking back at the magpies and ravens that came in to take their turn eating on the deer carcass.

I cropped the image, increased the contrast, did a little sharpening and saved for web.

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions on the previous bobcat photo. I tried to use your suggestions on this one. The ear tufts are not against the dark background, I increased the contrast and there is more room under the cat. Please let me know how I did.

Thanks for looking,
Dona Hilkey

Dona,

another nice image of the bobcat. The framing and composition is well done, not too tight, and with a good portion of free space / room to look at...

Hi Dona! I like this shot even better than the other!! The habitat is very complimentary to the cat. Although I do think it appears to be a bit soft. The tongue just makes the shot too.

Dona, I'm sitting here howling. This is such a great capture. The cat licking is chops is grand!

Yes, I agree with Chris, I think the image is just a tad soft but not much.

Well done.

Dona, I really like this. It has sharpness, colour, composition and interest. Wish it were mine.

Any image captured of a bobcat is a real prize. You did a very nice job on this image. It is clearly seen that this cat is at ease. A very natural pose. Nicely done.

Dona,
Without a doubt spotted cats are my favorite animals. This post and the previous post of this cat is superb. I wish I could get the bobcats around here to cooperate a little more for photos. Very well done.

Thanks to everyone who looked at my bobcat photos and especially those who commented on them.

Carol and Chris, I believe the image may not be perfectly sharp as you both said but I cannot see any softness myself. I've looked at it on three different monitors and it seems sharp to me, what am I missing? I don't know why I am not seeing the lack of sharpness. Could you give me detailed suggestions? What part of the image is not sharp to you? How much and what kind of sharpening would you use on this image? Hope I am not asking too many questions, I am always looking for ways to improve my image.
Thank you..

Hi Donna, great capture of an interesting cat. On a small jpeg like this it is extremely difficult to judge whether an image is really sharp or not. You have the original file, if you view it at 100 or 200% around the eyes and it is pin sharp than the only problem is the sharpening of the posted jpeg. :toast:

This is a great shot, Dona. I find it impossible to even see these cats, even though they are all around here. I just get small glimpses of them running away. Very nice. :toast: :toast:

This is spectacular! I love the cat and the background and the placement of his ears but to have it licking its chops -- wow! Lighting is perfect! Wow!
