A cute couple...

I couldn't resist to capture this 5-spotted Burnett that was posing for me on a plantain flower. Isn't it a cute couple?
As Ronnie said a few days ago, there are not many butterflies this year. I noticed this here in the Netherlands as well. Dragonflies and damsels however are very abundant.

D70, Sigma105, 1/500, F5.6, minor PS stuff.

Who is the better half in this 'couple' Ellen? Neat image. Was this photograped in the Netherlands? I have never come across this butterfly there (or anywhere for that matter). :toast:

This was indeed in the Netherlands, Vincent. I encountered this species a couple of times this year in the dunes. I must say I never saw this species before, didn't even know what is was! :wavey:

Ellen,
How very cool this is... I love this little guy. How unique he is, his spots are just wonderful and I think he just stands out against the plainness of the plantain. I have enjoyed viewing this tremendously!
Awesome capture! :toast: :toast:

We have the introduced English plantain here in Pennsylvania, but I've never seen this attractive moth.

Thanks for all your nice comments!

Herb, this indeed is a Sint-Jansvlinder in Dutch or Zygeana filipendulae in Latin. Where did you learn Dutch? :wavey:

Hi Ellen,

Nice capture! Interestingly, I can't decide whether I like this photo more as presented or when in a vertical (portrait) orientation (I keep flipping my laptop back and forth to compare). Either way it's an interesting and pleasing capture - thanks for sharing it!

Cheers...

Brad
