Rock Climber

Gallery: WildlifePosted August 21, 20072,432 views23 comments
Two years ago, when I was hiking Mt. Timpanogos, I met with this funny animal. He was very close to me and I was lucky to photograph him while he was looking at me.
Sometimes I wander how are they able to climb the rocks, often very exposed and almost vertical. This one was very furry, probably ready for winter.

Thank you for looking and for any comments.

What a neat and unique shot! You sure don't get them with fall colors in the BG very often.

That's a crazy animal and I love how he's caught staring at you from the rocks with the valley in the background. I am sure a few of them loose their footing and fall down ... but alas we never hear about them!

Wow this is absolutely beautiful Gabi. The pose of the animal is great, but the autumn colours of the BG and the red on the rocks face really make this a winner!

:toast:

You seem to have cropped it from the bottom or top and can't help wondering what was cropped out.

Gabi,

one of the things I like about this image is that it really communicates very well altitude. The background forest and its colors add also interest to the picture. I find also the overall composition very pleasing. Actually that funny animal is a "Mountain Goat"

What an awesome image... from a sheer compositional standpoint and the inclusion of an alert goat in his element. Again, excellent composition, colors and capture of the moment.

This also reminds me of Galen Rowell's hilarious experience photographing a mountain goat (or sheep). Definitely brought back a chuckle for me. Great shot!

Thank you all, very much!
Vincent: I cropped a little from the top and bottom. It was just more of the same rock. With the crop, the mountin goat stands out a little bit more. (I think  )

I have choosen this image for the "Editor's Pick", because it is one of this seldom situations, were environment and animal are combined perfectly to an image. The image says everything about this animal, it expresses the character of both, the habitat and the animal. Even someone not knowing the mountain goat will immediately know everything about this animal, and its living conditions.

Beautiful shot Gabi. The little splotches of red really stand out and give this additional points of interest. Very nicely done.
