Glacier Cavern with 2 extra versions

Taken this morning from inside what I believe to be part of the Paradise Glacier (but dont quote me on that). I was strolling through this area and was instantly drawn to the waterfall inside here (behind me).

The ceiling in here was about 10 feet high and it was at least 20 feet wide. I can understand the blue color in the ice, but not the red  . Colors are pretty accurate. Oh yeah...this is a 5 shot HDR image. I have found that the key to a realistic HDR image is to make the final product darker that you would want to and to not let the tool seduce you into bringing out more than necessary.

I shot in here for about 45 minutes until a big chunk of ice plopped down off the ceiling about 20 feet from me  . The wonder and amazement was over by that time, as I'm a big chicken!

Fantastic work Rick! That's a great perspective. The red is probably due to some iron deposits (armchair miner brain at work). This spot will be interesting during certain times of the day ...

Nice work Rick
The HDR work is great, I'm not so keen on the really bright sky peeping thru those holes.
Interesting shot .

I love the image Rick, but I think I might opt to clone the one bright spot to right of the opening up high

I like the formations of the ice on the cieling you captured. Great angle. The red is actually algae. It pretty much lays dormat over winter and then starts to feed off the flow of the spring summer melt changing to various colors, red being one of them. Again nice image Rick.

Great HDR, wonderful composition and colors. Algae brings a whole new dimension to glaciers during the warmer months. Pollen is sometimes also a factor in adding warmer tones. To me, the streaks from the dripping water are a big time bummer. Hopefully you could clone those out without too much difficulty.

I love this sort of shot, and i agree the HDR works well here--one of the best jobs ive seen. Would be nice if the sky wasnt so washed out in white, but that's a minor gripe.

Great processing, Rick. This would be a nice cool-toned B&W too. The reds are a type of algae that lives on the snowmelt.

I like this a lot - except the streak of water on the left. The ice wall details are wonderful, not so sure about FG elements - good work!

very cool, literally. intimate point of view. The gradations of different colored algae in the ice are a nice touch along with the crystalline shapes. I really makes me feel as if I was there.

That's an incredible view. What a unique combination of subject-matter. Natural framing re-defined!
The HDR goes unoticed, well done!

Very HDR-like, almost surreal. Like the stage design for a sci-fi film. Not exactly beautiful, but holds my interest for a long while.

Great colors and patterns, Rick, and good job at the HDR. It does however not look natural to me - the colors look plasticy to me - they have no glow. A very interesting image though and great composition.

This is amazing! I´ve never seen anything like this (ok, I´m Brazilian, no snow in Brazil)! The patterns in the ice are great! :toast: I´m glad the big chunk of ice didn´t hit you - we would miss your posts!

Man I'd clone out that water drip in the original and call it macaroni. It's images like this that keep my interest in HDR. Excellent work start to finish. And thanks for the HDR tip... I'm beginning to feel that way as well.

Thanks for the comments everyone, and also for the explaination of the algae.
I will clone out those water drips in the final product...I agree that they are annoying, especially when they were dripping down my back!

This is crazy, Rick! I'm all over it! Those ice shapes are wild. It must have been scary as hell being in there and having a bit of it fall down.

Amazing, I really like the foreground framing. The colors and shapes are so vivid. The washed out background sky doesn't bother me. Great job.

What's the term HDR mean?

nice shot, but I can see how it is confusing to see the red in the glacier.
Aside from that fact, this is a great shot. I can understand losing that sense of amazement with glacial ice falling close to you, but other than that I am at a loss of words for this shot.
