Enveloped by the Sea

A lone tree on the beach at sunset on the Southern Coast of Maui. For most of the hour I shot from here the beach showed some nice cobblestones but a large set of waves sawmped the beach and surrounded me as well. I like the surreal almost above the clouds feel the moving water gave this shot.

What do you think?

Canon 5D
17-40L
ISO100
f16
1/4 sec
3 stop Reverse Grad

Another nice shot here - The tree looks good in silhouette. I would like to see what this would look like with some of the stones in the foreground instead of the blurred water. That may require repositoning as I see how the waves come up the beach from this positon, which may alter the shot.

I like the effect here too Mike. Feels almost like being caught in a flood, since the water comes so close to the trees. The colors and muted sky are cool, I think making the chaotic water seem calmer than it otherwise would. Very nice.

I really am enjoying the detail of the waves in contrast to the beautiful silhouette you have here.

To all who asked, got wet up to waist. Had to dry my wallet out and nearly drowned my spare lens in my vest but all worked out.

Hi Mike,
It works for me. Now that you mention it, that surreal feel gets to me as well.

The silky water works really nicely here Mike, I like how you can still see the one rock under the water right side 1/3 up!. The light is pretty darn sweet, the sky really compliments the water too. Great shape to the tree!, excellent work!.

Mike, in this case the cloudless sky and white foamed water actually helps isolate the backdrop of this solo tree very nicely. Reverse grad was perfect pick for exposure here too.

I agree Mike, I like the water also, I especially like the little spot that you can see the sand through the water. Great comp on this one also..
