Desert Bouquet - WC #281
by Paul Breitkreuz
Taken in an open area leading up to the base of Lone Pine Peak. This type of cholla cactus seen here are plentiful throughout this entire area. This one cactus has been here in this spot for years and seems to really thrive in this location. Thank you in advance for your comments.

8 commentsAnother beaut! But I must say that I like the other image better. I love the light on Lone Pine peak, but just doesn't have the impact or layers that the previous post does. This is not to say that it's beautiful on it's own though! My only suggestion would be a crop from the bottom to a square format. The foreground dirt/gravel doesn't really add to the overall image and then I think you would have a stronger composition.

I don't know what the rules for re-posting are but I would post this to ESS so folks can glimpse this beauty.
I do agree with Lon that cropping the FG would add to the composition.

One of these "jumping cholla" down in Joshua Tree NP apparently leaped onto my jacket as I was rambling about looking for wildflower landscapes in the epic spring of 2005. I noticed it riding on my jacket then knocked it off. At the time, my Wisner with its leather bag bellows was atop my Gitzo G1325 on my shoulder. On the long March road trip, I had been over at Death Valley the previous week and after JT went to Shell Creek which was in a peak of a bloom many considered the best ever. Well the next week my stack of film came back with every image from that day onward from when I worked JT ruined due to a light leak. Yep that cholla cactus had bitten my bag belllows where it really hurt although I hadn't felt anything at the time. ...David
