Hi Jeffrey, good photo! Love the shape of their heads. This one is marked considerably different than one I saw that was killed by a road worker at Tikal, Guatemala. As a nit, I'd like more depth of field, but the main point of interest - that wonderful face - is sharp!

I love the detail in the eye. Most snake eyes are single colored and this snake's eye is camoflauged helping it blend in. Also love the pink coloring in its body. Great capture of a very venomous snake in the wild!

Hi Jeffrey, I commented above on how different your Fer-de-Lance is from my only encounter. I did some research and found that there are 32 species of Fer-de-Lances and no telling how many sub-species, all in the genus, Bothrops. I referenced your post here over in the Environmental Photojournalism Gallery with my "Deceased Fer-de-Lance" post. You may be interested in checking it out.

Wow, gorgeous! I wish there was more snake photos in this place.

I love this shot of the baby Fer-De-Lance... I recently purchased a marco and want to take reptile photos like this one. Did you notice the gray colored tick stuck to its body?

Have any more reptile shots from Peru?

I've been passionate about snakes since childhood. The fer-de-lance is one that I would love to encounter and photograph in the wild. Awesome capture... Even though a little more dof would really make it "pop", I like it as is. Did anyone notice the tick uder the scale on the lower left of the photo? These are common in wild snakes.Sweet shot Jeffrey! :toast:

No wonder these guys are so deadly - even the eye is camouflaged. Great shot and congrats on EP.

Hey Jeffrey, I am SERIOUSLY behind in commenting in the Fauna gallery, but I wanted you to know I think this is a wonderful photo of this snake! I like the shallow DOF and think it gives a unique quality to what might otherwise be a more typical shot. Plus, it helps focus the viewer's eye on the sweetest part of the photo...the snake's eye! Like Filip, I'd love to see any more reptile shots from your trip to Peru...you know I've been a big fan of your superb amphibian shots from the same trip.
