Supersize meal, impressive strength

The power of a male Lion was amply demonstrated while I was in the Masai Mara last week. This fellow carried the body of a large female warthog for over 700yards to a spot in a tight bunch of trees where the large meal could be defended better against hyenas, vultures etc.

Canon EOS1D2, 500mm, f9, 1/400, iso400, shot from bean bags on vehicle roof.

Wow.....the strength of some animals is amazing, it's beautiful in a terrifying way. I once saw a 17 foot saltwater crocodile drag a 2 ton water buffalo like it was a ragdoll and have it dead/underwater in seconds.

Love the intensity of this shot. It captures the act of predation amazingly well in one shot. The hungry, but focused look in the lions eyes. The peaceful look in the eyes of the warthog, who has met her end.

Its a smidgen' tightly cropped on the lions haunches for my taste, but I imagine thats hard to balance perfectly within the frame while the lion is moving.
