Sea of Stars
by Verena & Georg Pop
hi all,
our first post in fauna, we normally shoot landscapes. this was shot during a 20 day seakayak trip the two of us made in the gwaii haanas national park (B.C./Canada) located on the southern part of the queen charlotte islands. so much marine life there!

David, yes this is velvia, but the colors of batstars are very intense. this stretch in the gwaii haanas np is called burnaby narrows and is unbelievably rich in marine life. there are strechtes of maybe 50meters that look like this, the whole ground is covered with moonsnails, shells, seastars whatever..
it takes a few days to reach that place with a seakayak and you have to time it right to come shortly before low slack to have enough time to shoot. the water rises at ca. 1m (3 ft) per hour. can't camp there, because of too many black bears.

This a real winner. The colors and composition are outstanding. Do you bring a 4x5 with you on those kayaking trips?

yes, crazy as this might sound, we transported our 4x5 stuff along on nearly all seakayaking tours so far. the longest one was about 5 weeks along the "forgotten coast" (B.C./Canada - starting at Bella Bella) Everything longer, one has to cut down seriously on provisions to make room for the photo stuff, or rely completely on catching lots of fish... and we always make room for at least one bottle of good red wine!
