Mabry Mill

This was taken a couple years back at Mabry Mill, located along the Blue Ridge Parkway near Meadows of Dan, VA. My wife and I detoured about an hour away from the interstate to reach this location while on a longer trip southward, we were glad we did though once we saw the foggy conditions. It was so beautiful and peaceful being there in person, hopefully the photo conveys some of that same feeling. Comments and/or suggestions for improvement are appreciated! Thanks for looking.

Technical stuff: Sony F-717, tripod, polarizer. I cloned a couple glaringly white ducks from the pond, and also had to rotate the image about 1 degree CCW to correct a levelling issue (otherwise known as photographer's error). Minor levels/sharpening work was done in PSE 2.0.

I would rotate CCW a nitch more. This scene is very inviting, I love the way you have captured it. Would be interested in viewing it with the ducks perhaps you can tone down their glare. This is a calander type shot, very nice work (IMHO)

This is a very peaceful scene. Love the vibrant saturated colors & the mood the mist adds! :toast:

This is one of the best versions of this mill that I've seen Michael. The fog really gives it some extra atmosphere (for me anyway). I also like your comp, showing the fence and walkway in the front. Very well done! :toast: :toast:

This is fantastic! Love the mood the fog sets up...

I'd consider a slight crop on the left to eliminate the bridge/tunnel and the greens below it...but otherwise :toast:

Mabry Mill and Mist go together like Shrimp and Grits, :)) - you photographed this scene in perfect conditions IMO, the mist also enhances the late fall colours, very nice!.

Nice shot. Wouldn't be the same without the fog. Good call.

Wow, thanks so much for the comments everyone!

Daniel: I think you're right about the rotation, it may need just another tick more CCW.

Wonderful color muted by the fog, nice composition, I have not seen this scene before including the fence and walk as foreground elements, I think it works very well and am surprized more people don't use them in their images.

Hi Mabry,

This has lovely colours and atmosphere. There are lots of opportunities in this scene, and you've got a nice one here. I think the picture still needs rotating more CCW, but maybe you didn't do that as you didn't want to crop it any more.

Hi Michael!! This is such a nice image!! The mood the fogs brings to it and the wonderful colors and the comp. I don't think I'd touch the tunnel and greens myself, I think it adds to it actually. And yes, this belongs in a calendar!! Congrats on the EP!!! :jump:
