WC #232 Anza Borrego Desert in Bloom
by David Schwaegler
This is one of my favorite images from the great bloom that occurred in the desert southwest of North America in the winter of 2005. When I noticed this soft late-day light developing, I got to this location as quickly as I could.
Because all of these flowers are annuals, if you were to stand at this location near Borrego Springs, CA, today you would see nothing but sand and rock. Desert-wide blooms happen on average only once a decade, so I felt very fortunate to witness this one.
