Columbines are Blooming!

For several years now I've been trying to find a good patch of Columbine to photograph and finally found them Sunday morning after the rain. As I was making my way down to the creek to work a waterfall shot, there they were... :jump: I forgot all about waterfalls and shot Columbines for over 4 hours. I think I liked this one the best. Hope you like it too.

Beautiful image -- excellent bg-- the leaf at the bottom is a nice touch.

Great shot Bill. Very good sharpness, detail and comp. I love the waterdrop! The leaf in the LL really balances this out nicely, well done! :toast:

Bill,

Excellent details and lighting. I can't imagine you could have found a more perfect flower. Just love the dark background, really allows the flower to jump off the screen. Nice touch with the water drop and leaf at the bottom, well done. :toast:

The comp is really nice and a great job on the Columbine. That water droplet on the bootom is the icing to an already beautiful image. Nice work :toast:

Beautiful...I like the cascade of pistils (? stamens...whatever) with the water drop at the bottom.

Thanks to everyone for your compliments!

I thought I might add that the water drops are natural. I was able to shoot this particular bloom for about an hour before a gust of wind caused the drop at the bottom to fall. In addition, I decided to use a black BG due to the rather light colored rocks behind that would have distracted considerably from the bloom.

Bill, the water drop on this image makes it! This is not easy to do. Nice shot.

Bill -- A wonderful capture...I am jealous as Columbines are my favorite flower but it will be awhile before there are any in the Sierra's. Great job!

I like it too! Out in my parts the Western Red Columine are not very common. Wonderful detail and delightful composition.. Congratulation on EP.

Thanks again to everyone for your wonderful comments! It is such an honor to have one of my images selected as an EP. I really think there were other flora posts that were as good, if not better than my photograph of a Columbine bloom. I am also very grateful for the creative ideas I get from seeing others' work on this website - it's the best there is!

Thank you again!

Very nice DOF, colors, details, BG, and exposure Bill.
Interesting comp, the bottom leaf cluster balances the shot IMO.
And that single drop tops it off nicely :)
Merry Christmas!
