This Orton technique is intriguing. Does the lack of sharpness in detail bother anyone? thanks

Mark, I think you can expect loss of detail with the procedure Darwin first described. The colors here a quite striking. I enjoy them a lot. However, you can restore as much detail as you want using techniques Darwin provides in the Digital Imaging Forum.

Great color in this one Mark. If you feel the shadows are too and that is where the detail is lost, check out the "Orton Workflow" post on the Digital Imaging forum. Darwin posted a tip that I have tried and find it works great.

Orton is about mood and emotion not sharpness. Back in my camera club days, a wise old shooter said "If is is blurry, just call it ART - that way no one can harp on you for lack of sharpness!"

Mark,
This image is simply stunning. I think you're an Orton natural. I hope we get to see more. I'm a sucker for blue (hence my love of Velvia) and the blue in your image rocks!!

Yes, the lack of sharpness bothers me, but the resulting shift to seeing vibrant colors accented by black strokes against a blue background makes it all better than ok.
