Columbia River Gorge Globe Panorama
by Mike Jordan
This is a 11 image panorama of the Columbia River Gorge at Crown Point. Crown point is on the cliff at the bottom with the river spiroing off into the distant sky. The original 11 image panorama was turned into this globe using Painter IX.

This image started out as a 11 shot series of the Columbia River Gorge just East of Portland, Oregon and across from the well known view point, Crown Point, which over looks the river. The 11 image panorama didn't turn out too bad, although the sky was a bit blaw from lack of decent clouds. The sunset lighting was pretty good and still shining on Crown Point and the cliff it sits on. After I had created the image I was looking at some images done in Painter IX and saw an example and explanation of how to turn a panorama into a globe... so I had to try it. Even I was impressed how it came out and I still keep looking at the full size image and follow what seems like a path around and around into the image. Had I known I was going to create this from the panorama I would have done something about the two end images so I had something that would have blended together better. I'm already looking for another panorama that will work as well as this one, but I was probably just lucky on this first one. But I'm not going to give up trying to come up with a better one.
Thanks again for the comments.
