Newborns

I just missed the birth by a few minutes on these, but I got the first steps and the afterbirth eating (any requests?). I'd like to have a little more room around the deer, but there were too many people to step back, and a 200 included too much other stuff. The BG is a little busy too.

Hi Pete,

 A wonderful moment!!! An extra-ordinary photo!

Congratulations on being there, better just a few minutes late than a whole day.

Beautiful shot Pete. Do you know what the two spots of the doe's head are? I can't tell if they're glands or due to shed antlers. It's a bit rare, but some doe's do grow antlers. Interesting.

Thank You for sharing such a great moment. I'm curious where was this that there are so many other people around? IMO the magical moment, in such wonderful detail that you captured here, is far more important than any amount of technical perfection.

Pete: I have agree with Barb, in this case capturing the moment seems more important than technical excellence!

Pete,

I see nature photgraphy from 2 perspectives:

1. the one is the artistical part
2. and the other is the documentary view.

I think that this image fits very well and the second category.

Great job to be there :toast:

Hey Pete,

Must have been an amazing experience to witness. Glad you got to see this man.

As for the pic, I would prefer more room as well - perhaps the 200mm and then cropping would've been an option?

September man - I'm heading your way. Please have the park cleared (of people) for me, around the 20-25th, OK? :)

Cheers

Carl

Nice image Pete!!
I was also there about 1/2 hour after the birth and it was pretty cool to see even with all the people. Just wondering, do you know if both fawns were seen after the ranger came by and laid on his siren making the doe run? When I left there was only one fawn in sight and I heard that the other may have been injured in the confusion.
Just curious.

Twins, wow! Look at that detail on the eye of the standing little one - so quick after birth! And the texture of the matted fur - beautiful shot. Really nice!
