Great Sand Dunes - Abstract #2

by Rick Dunn

Another abstract from Great Sand Dunes NP. The last two that I posted were, to me, very dynamic given the curves that defined the image. This appears much more static, which usually doesn't hold as strong an appeal for me. But the strong lines and the blade of grass give it a zen feel, and although my eyes don't wander through the image, I do enjoy its simple impact. Your comments and suggestions are always appreciated.

Nikon D70; 17-35mm/2.8 @ 35mm; RAW; handheld; desaturation, toning and slight crop in PS

Rick,

I know you're familiar with John Weller and his book (DVD too)! These last images you’ve posted really remind me of his work. His book “Between light and shadow” was part of my motivation for the switch to the 1Ds.

I love this shot! Very simple, well seen and perfectly captured.

Great shot. There's music in this one. Even the grass blade and its shadow reminds me of a violin bow.

Rick, this is excellent! Not only is it visually intriguing, but it's one of those images that make one stop and think "hmm... never thought about it quite this way before".

Rick,

Good stuff, and it's one you don't see every day that's for sure.

Tremendous that ridge of sand is straight as a ruler. Even your signature bottom right seems compositionally perfect.
