This first year Virginia rail came in very close and I cropped the image to tighten up the comp. There was not a whole lot of room for getting the BG isolated. D500 600 mm f4 (1/2000 sec at f6.3, Iso 1000; fill flash at -1.7ev) Denoise, crop for comp, Levels, Shadows & Highlights...........................Jim

Excellent detail!  I really like the depth of field here and the head turn.

Good catch, despite the rather busy BG. Excellent detail! You might want to remove one of the catchlights in the Rail's eye.

A nice head turn and excellent detail in the plumage, Jim.  I'd be tempted to do something about the white area on the upper left leaf as it's rather distracting.

Hi Jim
Nice looking Rail.  The shot has good detail and I like the head turn.  It would be nice to do something with the white spot on the leaf and the second catch-light in the Rail's eye.
