You got a real cutie here, Sandy. Your quote reminded me of Johnny Horton's "North to Alaska" from the 50's, the first LP I bought as a teen. Great elliptical pooling and light, and good composition. The open bill is a real bonus. BTW, what's the species?

I like the downy feathers and the open beak.  Very interesting plumage.  Nice job with the composition

Hi Sandy,

This one is a cutie and a successful try-out for the 180-400mm. Nice and sharp and I would drop the exposure down by a third of a stop as my only suggestion. Well done...................Jim

Excellent view of the chick, a little bright perhaps, with really unusual plumage. That's quite the lens, for only $13K. How do you disengage the TC?

It's an incredible lens - "only" $13,000 ??  frown    That's me on the corner, begging with  a tin cup.
You engage/disengage the TC with a simple flip of a small bar that does not require taking your eye away from the subject.
I just can't hand-hold that 500mm any longer, and we are heading to Australia in a couple weeks.

Very cute and a nice capture, Sandy!  Photography in Alaska in the summer can very interesting.  You'll be shooting away, still getting decent light and suddenly realize it's way past your bed time!
