Musk Ox

I'm posting this here because if you look closely at the top of the image, you'll see some vehicles and buildings in the background.  While we tend to have deer wandering through the suburbs down here, in Nome they have Musk Oxen.  This was taken on a little dirt spur road on the edge of town with some kind of industrial operation in the background.  Most of the time, like most herbivores, they had their heads down filling their bellies, but this one was nice enough to actually look up at me for a few seconds.  I think it was letting me know that there was a youngster back in the bushes and I shouldn't come any closer-I didn't.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 150 mm, hand held, f/9, 1/640, iso 1600, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped to a 16.3 MP 4x5.  Taken at 11:50 am on June 9th.

Your comments and critiques are always appreciated.

Thanks,

It certainly was giving you the eye!  In spite of the industrial building, this is a fine environmental shot.  I am jealous of all the fine photography you are doing in the Nome area.

This is a very fine muskox photo!  I like that you have good details in the coats, sometimes that is hard to do.  Good color as well.
If you cropped out the buildings I see no reason this could not have gone into the Wildlife Gallery.  I have had a few interesting events with muskox in a couple zoos I worked in, brings back memories.  Thanks for sharing.

Great shot of a musk ox in its native habitat, Dennis!  I can see that that horn could inflict a great deal of damage.  Good idea to keep your distance.  I would have shot at 600mm!

Dennis, You got a really nice shot of this beast.  Great detail and depth to the whole frame.  I don't remember seeing any prohibition on posting wildlife in the wildlife gallery, or not posting it there just because there is some indication that it lives near buildings and such.  It seems that this is actually a wild animal.
