In all my years of shooting butterflies one of my most consistent nemeses have been sulphurs. We have some occasionally in our garden but they NEVER cooperate and only serve to frustrate. I went to the Mercer Arboretum yesterday in search of water lilies but was instead treated to this little guy working over some coneflowers. I got over 100 shots but discarded most of them with either a bad plane of focus or bad POF. This one hit the mark. All comments welcome. Please view LARGE! >=))>

Nice capture, Bill.  The large view is really nice.  It seems that many times when we go out to shoot, we envision what subjects we will find, etc., and come back surprised at what posed for us.  Great shot, and very nice detail and color.

Bill, it's totally worth discarding 99 shots to get this beauty!  The fine detail in the sulphur's wings and cone and the bright color combo of hot pink and yellow definitely hits the mark for a day well spent.  Very nice!

Excellent.  The butterfly shows good detail, but I may be more impressed with the detail and beauty of the flower.  Well done.

Hi Bill,

These guys can be a royal pain in the .........!  The frame-filling comp is ideal with the OOf flower in the BG.  The sulfur is tack sharp. You nailed it............................Jim

Bill, the colors of both the flower and the butterfly really pop well.  You've also got good sharpness on the bf's head and lower wing.  One could argue that it would be nice to have the hind wing also sharp, but in this case, I think the colors and the details in the coneflower bloom more than compensate.  The result is an outstanding image.
