Rainbow Rays

Thompson Pass near Valdez, Alaska as a heavy rain storm was letting up and the sun was breaking through.  The saturated ground resulted in two nice benefits.  One was the rich colors in the alpine tundra and the other was that the evaporating vapors resulted in some great rays as the sun came out.  I've never seen rays that had rainbows in them before so I had to capture this scene.  It wasn't easy shooting directly into the bright sun but at least it shows the rays.

Gary, those rainbow rays near the sun look like cloud iridescence to me.  When there are thin clouds near the sun you see some fine colors (here's an example).  This is a great view, with the colored tundra, lots of crepuscular rays, those nice iridescent colors and the long view along the river to the distant mountains.  It's a great catch.
