Rufous Hummingbird

I spent yesterday morning and part of the afternoon at Nisqually NWR.  I was just standing in what seemed a likely spot when this guy flew in and posed for me for quite some time.  This was probably the best pose he gave me.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, tripod with ball head and Sidekick, f/7.1, 1/200, iso 3200, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  He was a bit further away than I liked, but they frown on people jumping off the boardwalk into the marsh.  Cropped to an 8.5 MP 4x5.  Taken at 6:41 am on May 24th under cloudy skies.

Your comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking a look,

A very rufous Rufous, Dennis. Nice capture. Love the cobwebs.

Very nice image.  I like the soft light and fully lit gorget that you only seem to get with this head angle.  Perhaps just a little more DOF?

Not easy to capture a fanned tail.  As often as I see hummingbirds land is rare to see this display and catch it.  Very nice color, background, and perch.  Unfortunately at Nisqually, there are a lot of dark areas and you do need to shoot at high iso.  Had you a little more light, you would've been able to stop the action in the tail.
