Marmot

Our stay at Custer State Park featured gray sky and foggy conditions at higher altitudes.  Sylvan Lake was covered in extremely dense fog.  While climbing up one of the rock areas along the lake shore, I ran into this yellow bellied marmot.  They are quite colorful compared to the woodchuck. It was so damp that the marmot's fur was matted down with moisture. I bumped up the contrast quite a bit to reduce the effects of the fog.  K5 IIs 300 mm f4 (1/1000 sec at f4.5, Iso 640), crop for comp, shadows and highlights, brightness & contrast.

A very nice look at this Marmot in a cute pose!  I like how the tail is hanging down the front of the rock.  The light and color look good so your efforts to reduce the effects of the fog worked well.

It is really colorful Jim.  Great detail in both the rock and the marmot.  I have never seen such a red colored marmot. Clran, simple composition too.  Nice.

I love shooting these guys.  Nice eye contact and upright pose.  Perhaps move the subject slightly off center?
