Rufous Nest
by Ed Williams
This little rufous hummingbird nested in our avocado tree in our back yard this spring. It was amazingly hard to find even when we knew where the nest was located. A couple times we forgot it was there only to be reminded quite adamantly to stay back. We left for a couple weeks before we saw any more of the youngsters than a tiny black beak sticking above the edge. Since we returned it has been emptied. There are at least three rufous hummingbirds working the lantana hedge on our fence line these days. They also seem to really like the duranta and the aloe flowers. Canon 60D, f5.6, 1/200 sec, iso 640, 100-400 ISLii at 400 mm, lighting was tough with bright spots in deep shade, this is the best one I got. Thanks for your comments and critiques.
