Subtlety

Here is another photo from my Grand Canyon trip from December 2016.  When I first viewed this image after I returned it didn't seem to hold much promise because it was flat and seemed to not have much impact when I looked at the RAW file.  I think I'm getting better at recognizing the potential of a RAW file, but it is something I have struggled with.

Now that I have worked it up I really like the subtlety of the partially diffused light that creates a nice, but not overpowering glow in the canyon.

As always, all comments and critiques are welcome!  crying

Capture Info:
100 mm
f/8 @ 1/25 sec. ISO 100

Processing:
Levels Adjustment to set black and white point.  TK's luminosity masks, triple plays, frequency separation, clarity, and vibrance masks.  Color balance adjustment.

Beautiful image, Brian. I like the light with that wonderful natural looking glow and the colors are very nice as well. Excellent composition and the detail in the large version is great.  Not sure where all the comments have gone because it seems like this would have quite a few to me. Comments or not this is a wonderful image. Cheers, Nick

I agree.  The subtle glow on the canyon walls does pull my eye around the scene. Well done.

Brian, this is a nice image of the GC.  Colors, contrast and splattering of light look natural to me.

I'm glad you decided to work on it again; I like this.  As Nick said, it is very natural looking, and yet still has really good definition between the layers of depth.  I bet it would look good nice and big, where you could really see it.
Regarding RAWs, I pretty much do not look at them. I have my cameras set up to make jpegs, and that is what I look at to see if an image has possibilities.  RAWs just look "blah". sad

What a huge difference viewing this large. Great color and detail and sweet scene. Nice pop while keeping everything looking quite natural. Very well done.

Love the layers in this composition and the way the subtle highlights bring out texture and depth. Very nicely done Brian.

Brian, I love how much texture shows throughout this view.  The scattered bits of light are very well placed in the foreground and help keep attention there even as the rest of the image adds lots of depth.
