Chipping Sparrow

I got tired of giving in to the rain today and went out to the blind to see what luck I'd have.  There ended up being a fair variety of birds, though most were singularly uncooperative.  Even those that gave me a shot seemed determined to use the wrong perch, thus this bird perched on a larger branch positioned further than most of my perches and lying on the ground for incoming doves.  However, it seemed to work out with plenty of detail for web presentation.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 516 mm, Jobu gimbal mounted to blind window, f/8, 1/400, iso 3200, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV.  Processed in LR & PS CC.  Cropped to 11.5 MP.  I brightened the perch a bit, and dimmed, desaturated and blurred the bg as well.  Taken at 10:29 this morning under rainy skies.

Your comments and critiques are always appreciated.

Thanks for taking a look,

Very good color and detail in difficult lighting conditions.  The plumage seems almost a little wet.  I like the pose and I think the purchase just fine.  I like the grasses in the background.

Spring migration seems to be a little slow here as I have only seen one new species,a Warbler, since last fall.  Even the maple trees are slow to leaf out and appear behind by one to two weeks.

I like everything about this one Dennis. Perch, bg and comp.  It's nice you could make it work even if the birds didn't cooperate fully.

Nice techs as usual on this Dennis. I do find myself wondering why the 4X% crop though? With the long perch and height of the bird, it seems like it might lend itself more to a 2x3 comp. Just my 2 cents. Still nice work either way.
