Water Lilies

I believe this to be a lotus as the flowers are emergent.  It confuses me when the pads are floating instead of also being emergent.

Nikon 500, ISO 2000, 1/320 sec, 300 mm at f13, handheld and thankful for VR.

Comments and suggestions appreciated.  I have gone back and forth on this one.

Regards to all

Edit:  I have corrected this to show the flower as a water lily.  Went back to my photo file and confirmed this flower had no seed pod.  Thank you Phil for giving me a good way to tell the difference.

There are water lilies that are emergent. Probably the quickest way to tell is the lotus has a central seed pod; the water lily does not. Having said that, I believe these to be water lilies. However, if you can get back to the site for a downward look, that should be the final call.

Both the pads and the flowers are quite lovely. The water reflections really add to this. My only suggestion would be to trim the top and bottom into a near pano, since that would add to the strong horizontal flow. A real beauty!devil

Kathy: I agree with Phil on the ID. This is spectacular IMO. The color palette it marvelous and the reflection is the icing on a very fine cake. I can see Phil's point regarding the near pano crop but this works for me very well as is. I think the dark site frame in the normal view creates the illusion of a taller image but in the larger view the proportions seem just right. Most excellent.>=))>

Exquisite, Monet comes to mind.  The colors are vivid and the composition is beautiful.

Really pretty Kathy!  I love how the pads are all floating together and there is open water around that whole raft.  Excellent color in the blooms.  Great reflection too!

Did not look at this image until after I saw the second one.  Not sure which I like best.  Agree with the comment to change this compostion to more of a pano.  TFS
