The Noose

Sea Lion at La Jolla Cove, S California.

Note the ligature around his neck, likely from an irresponsibly-discarded rope or plastic.  It doesn't seem to be interfering much with a decent life, even though it has clearly been there for a long time as his neck grew around it.
Human junk is often  deadly for wildlife.

I took another image of a smaller, light-colored  sea-lion a few years ago, in the exact same place with the same type of noose. This may be the same critter.

Love the placement and the fluid pose!

Wow, that's a heck of a mark.  That looks really serious. Hope it keeps doing OK.

The pose is about perfect!  Given his light coloration, you might tweak exposure just a smidge to see if you get additional detail, but this is good as posted.

Ouch, that is really painful just to look at Sandy.  It has to interfere with the animals welfare in some ways.  This is really sad.

I saw the same sea lion a week ago when at La Jolla.  I wasn't sure weather the "noose" was still there or if it is just a scar.  I hope the latter, but am not at all sure.
