I have to admit that after Marc Adamus posted "Lord of the Valley" almost 10 years ago, I really looked for this view. Was way off on the other side of the mountain. One day while coming out of an overnight spot, I happen to look in the right direction, and boom, there it was. Actually right in front of me all the time. Anyway, his image was the the inspiration for this one. and they are not too similar, I think.

If the sky colors are real, I would tone them down...
It looks oversaturated, but even if not, it overwhelms the subject.

I love this shot Chris!  Excellent comp (nothing wrong with being inspired by Marc!) and detail.  At first glance I didn't agree with Dan on the sky, but on second look, I would change the color above the mountain but I might try toning down the colors an the left.  To me it's outstanding as it is though.

Mount Tom always looks great, but it is wonderful here. Honestly, I think the sky color is out of balance with the light in the foreground and on the Sierra. The magenta in the upper right looks nice, but the reds/oranges look over-saturated to me. I really like your composition.

A wonderful rendition of Mt. Tom here, Chris. And, I think you've succeeded in presenting an Adamus look associated with his scene from this locale too. I like it as presented, but can see the points about the saturation of the sky as well. Ultimately it's a personal taste thing in the end. Basically, no right or wrong IMO.

Wow! Gorgeous view Chris. I love the light and composition in the foreground and on the mountains.  I also love the sky, but it doesn't feel quite right with the setting as it is.

Wow! What a stunning view, Chris. You made some great use of layers in the scene and the snow on the peaks is a wonderful element in the image. Of course the drama in the sky is amazing although it looks a bit over saturated to me. Of course that is a personal thing. I would say you did Mark proud.

It has been a while since I have seen Marc's image.  I looked at it again and I think you have made this your own.  The wider angle of view diminishes the scale of the mountain somewhat (relative to Marc's image), but puts it more in the context of the rest of the landscape.  The clouds add a lot to the image - the clouds at the top of the frame almost look like flames from a 50's hot rod.  I would say you did very well with this and while the inspiration of Marc's image comes through you have also added your own creative interpretation of the scene.

Chris, simply an amazing image. The composition is great with all the layers and elements in the scene working together very well. The way you have processed the light on the foreground trees and grasses is outstanding. I think that the tonality of the sky feels dark relative ot the light on the peak and foreground. Try brightening the sky, and maybe decreasing exposure on the snow a small amount to achieve a better balance of tonalities in this scene. The light and clouds here are amazing, it's worth spending some more time on processing to improve the tonal balance.

This is a majestic view, Chris.  With some fine colors in the sky.  As presented, the sky seems brighter than the snow on the mountains, which doesn't seem right.  I really like the layers, sage, trees, mountains, sky.

Thanks guys!
When I view this from my archive on my monitor, it does not look this saturated and contrasty. Not sure why that is. But I can see the reason for the responses here. Slightly darker foreground, slightly brighter and less saturated sky. And a very small adjustment to dim the brightness of the snow. I think that covered it.
