This young alligator was quite patient as Mike Ramy slowly approached in his boat on the Ocklawaha River last week.  I was fortunate enough to get a nice series of it as we got closer. Pretty soon it was too close to get the whole gator in the frame and I got a few nice portraits of it too. Canon 60D, f11, 1/1000 sec, iso 400, -0.7 EV, 100-400 ISLii at 400 mm.  Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions for improvement.

Very nice detail in this portrait Ed, I might have framed it a bit lower to get the claw in the image.  devil

Very nice, Ed.  I think this is a great solution for the usual problem of making composition with long horizontal subjects.  I think your exposure looks great and the low perspective is optimal.  With some careful post processing selective tweaks you might be able to lift the shadow under the chin and in the eye, add a touch of eye contrast...and print for your wall!  Good posting.

I took your advice finally and lifted more of the shadows around the face, chin and under the arm Lon.  Thanks for your input.  Unfortunately Nate, I didn't have a tight crop with a better frame including the claw to work with, but I definitely see what you are saying.

This is a slightly different view of the same little gator on the log.  This time I included the claw.  Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions.
